Actors Workshop, Spring 2011
About the Actors Workshop
RETURNING AND ADVANCED ACTORS will bring in their own choice of monologues and scenes and we’ll work on what you, individually, want and need to focus on – such as developing a wider range of characters, analyzing classical text, pacing, pushing the boundries of what type of material you’re comfortable performing, audition techniques, etc. The class is really for you to have a sounding board and a safe environment to continue experimenting and growing as an actor. FOR THE FIRST CLASS: Bring in a monologue you’ve worked on.
FOR THOSE NEW TO THE STAGE, we’ll explore the basics of acting, learning to read a script to find clues as to who the character is and what motivates them, and making your performance truthful. Text for beginning actors will be, primarily, provided by the instructor. FOR THE FIRST CLASS: Be prepared to have fun and try something new.
FEE: $160 | 8 week workshop
Workshop size is limited so register early to ensure you’ll get in.
The Actors Workshop is led by CARYL BUTTERLEY, who returned to Jacksonville after working in New York City for over 20 years. Since returning to Jax she has directed a number of productions for ABET, most recently Once On This Island and Love, Loss, and What I Wore. Caryl is also a founding member of The 5 & Dime and directed their inaugural production of Fahrenheit 451.
