SANDERS FAMILY CHRISTMAS

by CONNIE RAY

DECEMBER 5-7, 11-14, 18-20 | 2008

MAIN STAGE | Highly entertaining and wildly infectious, Sanders Family Christmas is a sequel to the popular hit Smoke on the Mountain. The Sanders family has come to the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church sanctuary for Christmas Eve, 1941. Though it’s soon after the U.S. entered World War II, they’ll keep you laughing, clapping, and singing along, with over two dozen Christmas songs.

Near the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina, Mount Pleasant – a town smelling of vinegar and dill from the Mount Pleasant Pickle Factory – is crammed with kinfolk from far and wide. Because of the war, this might be the last holiday together for a while; but the Sanders family is in town for a joyous celebration.

REVIEWS

Barnard assembled a wonderful cast. Randy Judy… is a natural as Burl and an excellent musician and singer. Musical director Shelli Long is endearing as Vera Saunders and sings a beautiful and touching song to her son who is about to go off to war.
