THE CALLING

by DEBORAH JORDAN

APRIL 18 & 20 | 2008

STAGED READING | In 1882 three Benedictine Sisters, barely speaking English, journeyed from Switzerland to the Pacific Northwest, where they cared for the sick and poor and taught school. Today the community continues to follow the Rule of Benedict – commitment to healing hospitality, simplicity and peace – at the Monastery of St. Gertrude in Cottonwood, Idaho, and other places.

The Calling, written by local artist, Deborah Jordan, is based on interviews with these modern-day ‘monks’, describes their conversion to a life of prayer, work and serving the wider community.

REVIEWS

I like innovative theatre and this presentation was certainly that. If you missed it, you missed a good one.
