MUSICAL COMEDY | A new musical by Richard Wolf, author of last season’s After the Murders. Tony Gambini’s got a demanding ex-wife and an independent small NYC bookstore struggling to compete with the mega-stores and online booksellers. His only hope is a lotta nerve, a little blackmail and a lotta scotch in this richly tuneful and hilarious musical. Never judge a book by its cover.

Dick Kerekes & Leisla Sansom, EU JACKSONVILLE: “Bookstore certainly has a future, we would think. Theatres always want to do musicals, especially musical comedies since they are the most popular with patrons, but oh, so expensive to do. This one has a small cast and a relatively simple set, with little or no costume costs. There are fifteen original songs, and honestly there are several you could walk out of the theater humming… Tony’s “Another Kind of Man,” Emily’s “Life Keeps Moving On,” and the opening song “Start All Over Again” are ballads that we would enjoy hearing again. Don’t miss this original work.” READ FULL REVIEW

Tamara McClaran, SHORELINES: “Wolf,,, describes Bookstore as one of his personal favorites. He wrote the musical six years ago but says its story line and setting are more timely than ever. ‘Certainly with the way the economy has gone and the way book publishing has changed and now with Kindle,’ the wireless reading device, Wolf said. ‘When you are an independent bookstore trying to compete, it is a tough thing.’” READ FULL ARTICLE
